Bangladesh’s top star Shakib Al Hasan has been signed as an ambassador for Betwinner News, an affiliate of online betting site Betwinner. He announced the news on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday. Since then, the issue has been debated.
On Tuesday night, Shakib announced the official partnership with Betwinner News on Facebook, writing, ‘Dear fans. I am proud to announce the official agreement with Betwinner News.
Shakib also wrote, ‘Bet Winner News is the only source of sports news. If you always want to stay on trend and get the most important match analysis and game highlights then Bet Winner News is for you.’
This new controversy of Shakib was also raised in the press conference of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan Papon. On the Shakib issue, he said, ‘The first thing is that there is no question of taking our permission. Because we won’t allow it. If there is betting, then I will not allow it. It means, Shakib did not ask us for permission.’
The BCB president said that the board did not know anything about this. But now that the matter has come to light, the board will ask Shakib to clarify whether it is really an agreement with the betting company or not.
BCB will investigate the matter first on its own. BCB’s legal department will seek Shakib’s contract from him. BCB will give him a notice if the investigation finds him wrong. Nazmul Hasan said, ‘This matter came up in today’s meeting. We said that this is not possible, how can this happen! Quickly find out if it actually happened. If so, please let me know immediately. Notice to be served, how it is possible. The board will not accept it in any way. The board will never accept that it has anything to do with betting. That’s already what we said.’
Although Betwinner News is a sports news website, it is actually a subsidiary of a betting company called Betwinner. Betwinner website is also not accessible from Bangladesh. Because it is blocked.
