India ODI squad announced for Zimbabwe tour

BCCI has announced India’s ODI squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. Several senior cricketers have been rested. Shikhar Dhawan led India against Zimbabwe in three ODIs.

In a statement today, Saturday (July 30), the BCCI announced the 15-member squad. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli are not in this series. Shikhar Dhawan will lead in Rohit’s absence.

Opener Lokesh Rahul dropped due to injury. Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami have also been rested. That is, most of the cricketers who played in the recently concluded West Indies series are not on the tour of Zimbabwe.

However, Shubman Gill and Deepak Hooda remained in the team as a reward for performing with the bat in the West Indies series. Besides, Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar have been returned to the team.

India will play three ODIs in Zimbabwe as part of the ICC ODI Super League. If everything is finalised, this will be the first visit of the Indian team to Zimbabwe since 2016. The matches will be held on August 18, 20 and 22

After the Caribbean tour, India will rest the senior cricketers and tour Zimbabwe.
