Siddons may replace Domingo in Asia Cup

The BCB itself has doubts about the extent of Russell Domingo’s influence on the national team. There are questions about how much he can give to the team. BCB is thinking differently for the Asia Cup held in the United Arab Emirates.

South Africa’s Russell Domingo may not be seen with the Bangladesh team in this T20 edition tournament. Batting coach Jamie Siddons may be given the job of the head coach instead of Domingo. BCB is also thinking of bringing in a new coach.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan also hinted at a change in the coaching staff after a meeting with T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan and the cricket management department at the BCB office in Mirpur Shere Bangla Stadium today, ‘We are not strong in T20. Thinking about what to do about it, we made a decision. I want to change the mindset and thinking of the team since the Asia Cup. We want to see if we can start afresh or not.’

He also said that an official announcement will be made in this regard within the next two days. This wait is actually for Domingo to come to Dhaka. He is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka tomorrow from South Africa.

He will sit in the meeting with the officials of BCB’s cricket management department the next day. BCB wants to make an official announcement about the Asia Cup by informing him about their thoughts.

If this plan of BCB is implemented, two people can be the head coach of the national team depending on the version. Jamie Siddons in T20s and Tests and Domingo in ODIs. But that also depends on Domingo’s acceptance of this new decision. If he does not accept that, maybe BCB will have to think about the head coach.

In that case, there is also the possibility that Siddons remains as the head coach. But that depends on the results of the Asia Cup trials. In this regard, an official of BCB told Prothom Alo, “There may be some important changes in the coaching staff of the Asia Cup.” The plan depends on whether we will get positive results or not.

Not only the lack of confidence in Domingo, but the number of games ahead for Bangladesh is also increasing. All in all, BCB wants to bring changes to the coaching staff. Nazmul Hasan was also saying, “According to the number of games, the coaching staff is also needed. Who will do the work with those who are outside the national team? I am also working on the problems that are being talked about so that they do not come forward.

That Siddons is also interested in taking on new responsibilities is also understood by the words of the BCB president, ‘Jamie Siddons came to my house a few days ago. We were discussing some things. If we want to win or do well we have to change the mindset of T20. There is no alternative. You cannot win the match by making 130. We need to score 180-200 runs. I see no sign of doing that in our plans now. We have discussed what can be done. Then Jamie came in and said he was very interested in it too.’
