Domingo wanted to give full freedom to cricketers

Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo who recently was removed from his role in the T20I format took a swipe at the cricket board. According to him, some people from the outside always tried to interfere in the decision-making.

The South African-born coach revealed that he always wanted to give the players freedom instead of pressurizing them. However, some board directors were against his philosophy and used to scream at the players and criticize them harshly in case they made any mistakes.

“I did not want to give them total freedom but I don’t think you can have big benefit by screaming because when you are making a mistake if you criticize them harshly you cannot get the best out of them and I didn’t want to do that (criticize) because cricketers need time to learn from their mistakes and take their own decisions. But they cannot do that because they are always been scolded and given suggestions,” Russell Doming told Daily Prothomalo in his recent interview.

Domingo further revealed that the pressure on the players do not only come from one person, rather it comes from multiple persons of the cricket board. He beleives such interference creates problem in long term development of the cricketers.

“This does not come from one place but from everywhere and that is the reason you cannot develop your cricketing knowledge because they cannot think anything on their own. The boys are so used to it that they are always dependent over others,” he added.
