Protea captain shares insight into South Africa’s strategy for CWC23

South Africa is generating considerable buzz as one of the teams to watch in the upcoming ODI World Cup, set to kick off on October 5. The Proteas are riding a wave of confidence following a remarkable comeback from a 0-2 deficit to secure a series victory at home against Australia.

Historically, South Africa has struggled to live up to its potential in World Cup tournaments. However, current captain Temba Bavuma is optimistic that his team can change that narrative. The diminutive cricketer, who has been in spectacular form in international 50-over cricket this year, boasting an average close to 80, revealed that the team has been actively discussing a bold strategy focused on seizing key moments in the game.

Bavuma emphasized their new approach, stating, “The way we’ve conducted ourselves this year contrasts with the traditional perception of our team. We’ve placed a strong emphasis on boldness, fearlessness, and positivity, constantly seeking opportunities to tilt the game in our favor,” as reported by India Today.

South Africa will commence their ODI World Cup campaign with a clash against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, October 7.

Before their opening match of the upcoming tournamnet against Sri Lanka, South Africa will play a couple of warm-up games on September 29 against Afghanistan and on October 2 versus New Zealand. Aiden Markram will be leading the side in the absence of Bavuma as he will travel back to South Africa due to a family emergency. Cricket South Africa confirmed the same on their ‘X’ handle on Thursday, September 28.
